Security Cameras & Surveillance, example installation by Smart Tech

A camera system is only worth something on the day you need the footage. That is the test we design for: can you read the face at the door, the plate at the gate, and find the clip in under a minute?

We plan, wire and install IP camera systems for homes, offices, stores, warehouses and multi-tenant buildings across New Jersey, and we stay on as your service company after the install.

Who we install cameras for

Homeowners who want to see the driveway, the yard and the front door from their phone. Store owners who need clear checkout and stockroom coverage. Offices and medical practices that need entrances and parking covered. Warehouses and yards where the cameras have to work at night, in the rain, across long distances. Property managers and HOAs that need shared access to footage without handing out one password to everyone.

How a camera project works

It starts with a walk of the property. We look at what you actually need to see, where people and cars come in, where the light changes during the day, and how cable can get from each camera back to the recorder without ugly runs.

From that we put together a camera plan: which camera goes where, what lens and resolution it needs, and how many days of recording you get. You get that plan with a written estimate.

On install day we run network cable, mount and aim each camera, set up the NVR, and set motion and analytics rules so you get the alerts that matter and not every passing leaf. Before we leave we set up the app on your phone and show you how to find and export a clip.

License plate recognition (LPR) cameras

For driveways, gated communities, parking lots and loading docks, a standard camera usually cannot read a plate on a moving car, especially at night. LPR cameras are built for that one job, with the right shutter speed, infrared and placement for the lane they watch.

We install LPR cameras that you own outright and that record to your own system. If you found us searching for Flock cameras: we do not resell the Flock subscription service, but we can talk you through owner-operated LPR as an option for your property.

Upgrading or fixing an existing system

A lot of our calls are for systems someone else put in: a dead DVR, cameras that went blurry, an app that stopped connecting, or analog cameras that are simply too old. We can troubleshoot and repair what you have, and when it makes sense we reuse existing cable to keep the cost of an upgrade down.

What affects the price

The number of cameras, how far and how hard the cable runs are (finished ceilings, brick, outdoor trenching), the camera resolution and analytics you choose, how many days of footage you want to keep, and whether you want a local recorder, a cloud platform or both. We price each of those on the estimate so you can see where the money goes and adjust.

Why NJ clients pick Smart Tech

We have been doing low-voltage work since 2004, from our office in Kenilworth, NJ. The technicians on your job are BICSI-trained and manufacturer-certified, and we are fully insured.

We answer the phone, we show up when we say we will, and we leave the ceiling and the closet cleaner than we found them. Every job ends with a walk-through, a short training session and documentation you can hand to the next person who needs it. For critical systems we offer 24/7 emergency support.

Most of our work is in Union, Essex and Morris counties, and we take projects across New Jersey and in parts of New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

Frequently Asked

  • How many cameras do I need?

Most homes land between 4 and 8, and most small businesses between 8 and 16, but the real answer comes from the walk-through. We cover every entrance, then the areas where something valuable sits or something could happen, and we avoid paying for cameras that only watch a wall.

  • How long is the footage kept?

That depends on the recorder storage, the number of cameras and the resolution. We size the recorder for the number of days you ask for, and 30 days is a common target for businesses.

  • Can I watch the cameras on my phone?

Yes. We set up the app on your phone before we leave and show you how to watch live, scroll back through recordings and save a clip.

  • Can you work with the cameras I already have?

Often, yes. We can repair or reconfigure an existing system, and when we upgrade we reuse the cable that is still in good shape.

  • Do the cameras still record if the internet goes down?

With a local NVR, yes. Recording continues on site and you only lose remote viewing until the internet is back.

  • Do you install license plate cameras?

Yes. We install LPR cameras for driveways, gates and parking lots. We do not resell Flock, but we install owner-operated LPR systems.
